OptiX Keynotes
Every form of optical interface to date has stood the test of time – madi, midi (optically coupled), ADAT, s/pdif.
This is because the optical interface galvanically isolates each end from any possible interference, including thunderstorms, which makes it fundamentally reliable. People like that kind of reliability.
The BrikWorm OptiX (Optical-to-XLR) takes advantage of this built-in robustness, using 2 light pipes per unit, one to send data and one to receive. Each light pipe carries audio, control and synchronisation information as required.
As well has having some great remote-controllable features, there is one thing about the OptiX modules which makes them incredibly flexible - each 1u module is only 5cm deep (even the 80W power supply), making it possible to wall-mount in stud walling, assemble in a briefcase, etc, limited only by your imagination.
Trad, Live and ProLive modules may be mixed and matched as you require.

TosCAT
TosLink (POF Plastic Optical Fibre) to CAT5 converter: used to extend the range of the optical cables, using all four pairs of the CAT5 as transmission lines.
The TosCAT has 8/16/24 optical interfaces to allow a total of 32/64/96 audio channels, including DMX, to travel down a single CAT5.
An additional auxiliary optical port is provided on the Live and Pro-Live versions for additional features, like the DMX.
Example formats illustrated below - for the full listing see the Features Matrix.
96-channel - Pro-Live version
Features
- metal connectors
- local and remote and variable midi control
- micro SD card
- BlinkOn: instant-on without needing to save data
- auxiliary optical port (for DMX)
- redundant cable
64-channel - Live version
Features
- plastic connectors
- local and remote and variable midi control
- micro SD card
- BlinkOn: instant-on without needing to save data
- auxiliary optical port (for DMX)
32-channel - Trad version
Features
- plastic connectors
- local midi control
- micro SD card
Power Magic
The BrikWorm system is powered down the cable, therefore the power supply Brik can be located anywhere in the daisy chain.
If you inject power through the RJ11s on the rear of the TosCAT, it comes out of the Ethercons on the front; if you inject through the Ethercons, it comes out via the RJ11s.
